The existing technologies of Post Combustion chemical Carbon Capture actively use the different types of amine-based solvents. These are generally various formulations of amines. i.e. Monoethanolamine (MEA), Diethanolamine (DEA), Methyldiethanolamine (MDEA) as a basic component and Piperazine used as a reaction activator. All these solvents are doomed to degrade, be lost and contaminated during circulation and the most important problem here is Heat Stable Salts (HSS) formation. HSS usually exist as amine salts of ionic nature, such as acetate, chloride,formate, sulfate, oxalate, thiosulphate, thiocyanate and others of the kind. All of them are thermally stable and not dissociated under the regeneration process. The HSS presense in the solvent results in the following:

  • Excessive consumption of amine and loss of its reactivity towards CO2,
  • Increased corrosion of equipment steel surfaces - HSS act as a corrosion accelerator,
  • foaming and fouling due to salts deposition.

Our Mobile ElectroDialysis Module is installed into 40' container and can be easily transported for "HSS withdrawal as a service" function. For this we use the following algorithm:

Upon the request from your side we will send you the questionnaire to be filled out with the detailed description of the problem, process flowsheet, main operational parameters, type of the absorbing solvent used. We will also request a sample of regenerated solvent for the laboratory analysis and operation improvement consideration. After the basic project calculations are done and the scope and duration of works defined we submit a price proposal to the Customer. Afgter the proposal is accepted we will come to the site and connect our Mobile CarbonCapt-EDM to the existing carbon capture plant as follows:

  1. The EDM to be installed in the bypass line of the regenerated solvent, pumped to the top of the absorber column,
  2. As far as the solvent temperature at the EDM inlet should not exceed 80°C, the solvent cooler is also included into EDM,
  3. Operational pressure is 2-5 kg / cm²,
  4. Power and water supply must be provided by the Customer.
  5. 60m² plot is required to allocate two 40' containers.

The CarbonCapt EDM is a newly developed highly effective technology solution for cost effective withdrawal of Heat Stable Salts from amine-based absorption solvents at the industrial sources of CO2 emissions. Its principal benefits are a s follows:

  • High efficiency for HSS, SO2, H2S and carboxylic acids removal,
  • Amine-based solvent life-time is sufficiently prolonged,
  • Modular design guarantees easy scaling up,
  • Minimal amount of environment friendly wastes,
  • Reasonable cost of " HSS withdrawal as a service".
